MACEDON. Pella. Severus Alexander, 222-235. (Bronze, 24 mm, 8.11 g, 1 h). IMP C M AVR S-EV ALEXANDE-R Laureate, draped and cuirassed of Severus Alexander to right. Rev. COL IVL A-VG PELLA Nude Pan seated to left on rocks within grotto, raising his right arm over his head and resting his left arm on rocks while holding lagobolon; above his knee, syrinx. SNG ANS -. Cf. Varbanov 3737. Seemingly an unpublished variety showing Pan within a grotto. Brown patina. Light porosity. Very fine.
